Newland Developments (Pty) Ltd is a privately-owned property development company, specializing in residential, industrial and commercial developments. Newland has a distinctly local influence by developing purpose-built residential blocks as well as transforming old spaces in areas with which they are very familiar. Newland Developments have a long-term approach and are highly selective of their projects always ensuring there is value for their buyers/end users. There is a conscious design philosophy, enhancing the surrounding environment and resulting in a positive contribution to communities and the lifestyles of its residents.

Meet the directors

Philip Nel – Director

Worked for Maponya Developments (Pty) Ltd from 2005 – 2014. Philip was part of a three-man team who developed several commercial properties in the garden route, including the Knysna Mall, the Square Shopping centre in Plett and The Rex Hotel and still has various interests in property in the garden route. The value of developments during his tenure at Maponya that he was intricately involved in total in excess of R400 million.

Gavin Lay – Director

Comes from a construction background and had his own construction company (Layford Construction) operating predominantly within the Garden Route during the period 2004 – 2014. During this period, Layford construction successfully constructed over 40 high-end single residential houses, as well as a residential development in Knysna. Total construction value during this time was in excess of R200mill.

Alex Huber – Director

Has a Bus.Sci Finance and Property Studies background and cut his teeth working for the Eden Island Development Company as well as the Manor Group which developed retirement villages. Alex then founded a software start up called D6 Technology with the proprietary School-Communicator. He successfully sold to the Open Learning Group 4 years after inception. In 2014 he re-entered the property arena and 2 years later formally joined Newland Developments.
